Recreation Therapy

Recreation Therapy is an evidence-based practice which specializes primarily in community-based & individualized interventions with thoughtfully curated implementation plans & goals created by our certified therapists (CTRS, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists) which are unique to each client. Focusing on physical, cognitive, social, & emotional domains we strive to enrich the lives of our clients while improving overall wellbeing, independence, & community integration.

Goal focus

Physical: Cardiovascular health, building stamina, improve range of motion/gait/posture/balance, increase muscle mass, etc.

Cognitive: Improve processing skills, utilize executive functioning skills, memory recall, increase impulse control (also falls under emotional regulation), turn-taking, thinking about others, etc.

Social/Communication: Improve both verbal and non-verbal communication, assistive devices, social skills, recognizing social cues & detecting tone of voice changes, increasing eye contact & appropriate facial reactions and body language, etc. 

Emotional Regulation: Recognizing and accurately labeling emotions, creating coping skill tools in conjunction with therapist to assist when emotions are heightened, assessing the feeling when not in control of emotions & being able to properly regulate between zones (please see zones of regulation resources & curriculum), improve overall mood and emotional stamina, etc.
